march 16 was my day

this is my first post on my brand new blog and as much as i want to take this opportunity to be erudite and original, i'm tired and not feeling especially creative so i'm starting off with a repost of a recent my space blog entry. stay tuned for original banality and possible wit, coming soon to this cyber space.

march 16 was my day

on march 16 a friend who i have been missing called me to go out and we distilled the last week into the most interesting parts. we had drinks with handfuls of cherries and drinks made by convicts and a paper basket of popcorn and walk the line.

i left laughing and i left knowing how much i will miss this friend but how ok that's going to be because it's all a part of life and anyway i will visit her in the city.

no, it won't be exactly the same, because we'll have months to distill instead of days, but that just means we will be more discerning when choosing the most interesting parts.

on my way into a bookstore another friend called, an ally with whom i share the heartist laughs and the best (and worst) secret dinners. 20% mentor and 80% co-conspirator, we have a shorthand that feels like kinship and she called to make sure i wasn't put off by an abruptly ended online chat today.

of course the nature of online chats is exactly that they might end abruptly, due to pressing work, clicky shoes coming down the hallway, or falling off of the interweb suddenly, so there were no hard feelings but i was pleased that she asked.

two more calls, one from a new friend with an invitation and another from an old love with news of her week. the first call allowed me to understand that i will be seen to after the upcoming, heartbreaking emigration of several friends and the second call showed me that i am perfectly well equipped to deal with the world on my own terms. both made me smile.

and it occurs to me that while not every day can be march 16, every day probably has more of these small and special moments than i usually notice. so i'm going to start noticing them and i think you should, too.
